Arrange your model at a slight angle in a chair. Establish that they will be comfortable to sit in this pose for an hour or so (with breaks). Before you begin your drawing consider the angle of the central axis that runs through the seated figure. Notice any twists or bends.

Identify a measured unit that will help with the scale and proportions of the figure. Draw the model from different angles and positions. Remember to look and measure with each pose.

Identify the possibility of foreshortening and make written notes. Is there more than one line of movement? The torso may have a slight twist to it.

My two last sketches depict a model sitting and twisting her torso over a chase and lying down on her side on a big sofa and I wanted to give again a well detailed tonal value using graphite and charcoal.

I have produced my first of the two drawing giving a twist on the model torso from her left hand side to the inner of the chase pushing her knees against the sitting deck in order to recreate a S-shape movement to the image which is depicting the strength usually applied to a body when sitting on side.

Her head is twisting again backwards leaning on the chase headboard and giving with those elbows a little balance to the whole figure along with her crossed legs which define the gravity point over the sofa.

Also, in my second sketch, I worked towards an early stage of foreshortening which is among my favourite perspective, depicting the model lying down on her left side over a flat surface. My point of view was close to her right foot so I tried to keep the right proportions through the whole body structure according to the perspective from where I was observing the model.

Again, I can see a movement of her head leaning down over the surface and her torso being balanced by the right arm towards a side. A small twist and I have enhanced more energy through the movement of her crossed legs in order to balance the whole body structure and to create a firm support over her left knee lying on beneath her body.

I tried to respect proportions measuring arms, legs and taking into account the foreshortening perspective so I would have given depth to the sketch and a peculiar proportion of her shapes to the background and from the foreground closer to my eyes.
