Description
Rare Antique Japanese Handmade Hibachi, original 1890, cm. 66,5 x 30.
The hibachi ( (Japanese: 火鉢, “fire bowl”), is a traditional Japanese heating device. It consists of a container with an open lid made of or covered in copper and designed to contain burning charcoal. An iron grid was often placed above the area of the coal container for heating or cooking various foods, or simply to heat tea during the tea ceremony. However, they were more often used to heat small Japanese homes. Furthermore, traditional hibachis were originally used mainly by samurai classes and aristocrats, but gradually spread among the general population.
